About

When the world is literally changing in dramatic ways many small health issues simply get pushed aside.  Dental health is an area that was completely overlooked and in many cases those offices were closed down across the country as not being essential.  This can be a scary time for many but the little things like dental health should not be overlooked and in some cases should actually be increased since the availability of time is there. So I want to go over just some things to keep in mind for emergency situations and how to deal with them.

For my wife and I the stores around us shutdown for a bit and in many cases across the country many local stores and pharmacies were looted, rioted, and burned.  This caused a supply chain issue all around the country and many products were brought in sporadically.  Toothpaste is one thing that we found actually got really sparse.  Now if you have a specific brand of toothpaste that you are used to using or that has been recommended by your dentist for a specific reason than this was possibly a bad time for you.  This is one time where it is good to start a product budget and list of things you use regularly and how much you use of that particular item each month.  Then once you know this amount you can properly plan for a future pandemic by having enough on hand to get through a certain amount of time.

Now that you have a schedule and a list of things that you need it is best to go ahead and stock up on the areas of items that you need. I suggest not purchasing all these items in mass quantity all at once. But I think having an extra two months supply on hand is a good thing.  For my location most stores closed down for about two months and then everything started getting back to normal 4 months in or so.  So I think at a minimum it is good to have about two months of supply on hand.  This goes for toothpaste and mouthwash, floss and even extra brushes.

So I think two months supply of all these things is a good amount, but it couldn't hurt to have many four months on hand of products that are really important.  I do suggest getting this at a small amount at a time so not to panic buy and hurt the supply chain that still exists.

Now that we have covered the amount of supply that you should have on hand.  I do suggest working on your dental habits especially if you are working from home.  This is the perfect time to get your brushing habit in tip top shape.  I suggest taking the time to set up morning, lunch and nighttime habits.  It is really simple to forget about your habits during this time, but if you are wise and ready you can set up the best dental health of your life.  I find it really easy to brush and floss in the morning. Then after lunch I make sure to add in a lunch brush and floss and I have to admit my teeth are whiter and feeling completely pain free. So it may be a pandemic, but it is also time to step up you other health as well.
